Friday 27th April 2012 Twenty walkers took to the hillside around the Cap du Dramont peninsula. The spectacular sea views towards Agay and St Aygulf were enhanced by bright sunshine and a strong wind whipping the sea over the rocks. The two hour walk passed by the Ile d’Or with its tower folly and the wartime landing beaches. A convivial lunch at the Tiki Plage restaurant followed. Thank you organizers Rod & Elaine Joyce. |

Friday 30th March 2012 Richard and Chris Alexander chose a circular walk with great views around the hills above Clavier. The two hour walk along tar-sealed roads and forestry tracks with views across the valley was followed by a ‘picnic’ lunch for sharing; accompanied, as last year, by Chris’ soup and Richard’s wine at their house in Claviers. |
|
Friday 24th February 2012 Therese Gerrey arranged a circular walk starting from the parking area on the D8 at the Col de Bougnon, north of Les Issambres. A dozen walkers (and four dogs) completed the circuit and enjoyed the sea views from the hilltops. A lunch in the restaurant L’Alizes in Les Issambres followed the walk. |
|
Monday 30th January 2012 Bjorg and John Barth organized another walk in the Esterel, starting from the Esterel Camping. A dozen members participated in the walk, on the only dry day amidst the rain, around the valley with views of the Esterel. Afterwards we drove down to ‘Le Drakkar’ in Port Sainta-Lucia near St Raphael to enjoy fellowship and their excellent value ‘plat du jour’ at only 13€. |

Friday 18th November 2011 On a glorious day in November, six walkers, 5 members and one guest, and two dogs set out for a scenic walk in the forest Here and there, the terrain was degraded, due to recent rains but our band of walkers negotiated the inclines and declines magnificently. Following this, we ate a well deserved meal (dogs excluded) at one of our favourite restaurants, Mass St Donat. Everyone agreed that it was a day to remember and should be rescheduled for next year when more people can attend |

Friday 26th October 2011 Our walk following the lovely river Endre, went very well. The weather was perfect and the company delightful. 10 people took part plus the doggies, George, L.B. and Georgia who enjoyed themselves immensely. We met up at 10:15 and did the 6-kilometre walk to and from the waterfall in just over two hours. It's an easy walk in the shade of the parasol pines, which we took at a leisurely pace in order to admire the scenery and have a good chat together. Eight of us then went for a well-earned lunch at the Mourette restaurant, which was packed. Understandably as it is excellent food, good service and very reasonably priced; a thirteen-euro menu, which includes a large main course, a choice of desserts, wine and coffee. You can't really beat it. Thank you Phillippa Magoust for the arrangements. |

Monday 26th September 2011 Our President Janet organized a group of twenty walkers, which included four guests. She managed to find a surprisingly level walk despite starting at the Col de Vignon 380m above Plan de la Tour. The ninety minute walk skirted the hillside overlooking the sea, then through chestnut woodland to the pretty hameau of La Mourre. The walk was followed by a return visit for a long lunch in the sunshine at ‘Le Carnotzet’, a favourite restaurant in La Garde Freinet.

Friday 10th June 2011 Our thanks to Robert and Fiona Jones who arranged a two hour walk around a valley near the hill top town of Fayence. Eleven members took part and enjoyed an excellent lunch at ‘La Farigoullette’ to complete the outing. |
|
Friday 29th April 2011 John and Bjorg Barth organized a walk high up in the Esterel. A dozen of us drove 12km through spring flowers in the hills to our starting point near the Pic de l’Ours. We walked for two hours enjoying the wonderful easterly and westerly views over the coast. before eating our picnic lunch on rocks adjacent to the parking area. |
|
Friday 25th March 2011 (postponed from 4th) Eleven of us completed a circular walk from Chateau des Demoiselles (www.chateaudesdemoiselles.com) . The 8km walk took two hours around the vines and through woodland passing beside the river. An excellent attractively priced 13€ lunch at the restaurant Domaine de la Maurette nearby rounded off the event. Incidentally, I am told by Richard Alexander that Domaine de la Maurette was the venue for the very first meeting of VIAC. |

Thursday 3rd February 2011 Richard and Chris Alexander arranged a walk around their home in Claviers – down into the valley and back up to the town centre. Fourteen people with seven dogs (dog ratio is increasing) set off but within 15 minutes we lost one walker whose dog had led him astray; twenty minutes in we sent back a search party which reduced our walkers by another three. However, ten of us completed the walk and retired to a bar in the village square for a well-earned drink. The original ‘drop-out’ (he might identify himself by adding his photograph to this newsletter) eventually re-joined us after taking his own route. We re-assembled for lunch ‘chez Alexander’ where, thanks to Chris we enjoyed soup and copious wine - accompanied by dishes from other participants.

Friday 3rd December 2010 Eleven members and three dogs undertook a two hour walk above Roquebrune sur Argens on a sunny morning—which followed several days of rain. Consequently the stream which had been a trickle a few days before had become a torrent and two of our ladies chose a barefoot crossing of the inundated stepping stones. We climbed beside the course of the aqueduct (which for many years supplied water to the town), saw the newly restored signs naming the native plants en route before returning by a track with views of the Roquebrune’s famous rock. A convivial lunch in Le Sainte Candie restaurant in the town concluded the event. |

Monday 4th October 2010
Bjorg and John Barth, arranged a walk in the Valescure region but only four members planned to join them. Unfortunately the walk had to be abandoned towards the end due to heavy rain and very wet clothing.

Monday 21st June 2010
A small group completed a two and a half hour walk in the hills behind Seillans - with a visit to Le Mas des Combes Longues goat farm to buy cheese. Following the walk organized by John and Sandy Graham we enjoyed a picnic in their garden with its views of the hills and valleys to the south.

Friday 23rd April 2010 The walk scheduled was cancelled due to lack of interest! Perhaps partly my fault: only one week's notice as I had been in UK so unable to confirm arrangements; clashed with St George's Day British Association of the Var activity; coincided with other difficulties for air travellers...
